Troubleshooting
"My browser can't run the studio"
GemGpu renders with WebGPU. Use a current Chrome or Edge on desktop — macOS, Windows, or Linux. Safari and Firefox support is arriving with their WebGPU rollouts. If WebGPU isn't available, the studio offers a reduced-quality compatibility mode and says so — it will never silently give you a slideshow.
The studio asks me to reload after an update
Installed-app windows and long-lived tabs can outlive a studio release. When that happens, GemGpu detects it and shows a friendly "new version available" screen instead of failing mysteriously — one reload and you're current. Your work is protected by autosave.
Performance
- The HQ/MED/LOW chip (top bar) trades live-viewport resolution for speed — exports are unaffected, so working at MED costs your deliverables nothing.
- Performance mode (HUD) is the one-tap version of the same idea.
- Big pavé pieces are budgeted per stone automatically; if a very heavy scene still crawls, hide parts you're not working on (variants and isolate make this one click).
- Laptops on battery throttle GPUs — plug in for long renders.
The image went black / the tab froze mid-session
A GPU device can be lost (driver update, system sleep, another app taking the GPU). GemGpu detects it, stops cleanly, and shows a recovery screen — reload to continue from your autosave. If an export was running, it cancels rather than writing corrupt frames.
My import looks wrong
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| GLTF refused | It references external files — re-export as GLB or "glTF Embedded". |
| .3dm arrives empty | The file has no render meshes — open it in a shaded Rhino viewport and save, so meshes are embedded. |
| Everything is one part | STL has no part structure — re-export as GLB (keeps objects separate) or OBJ, or use the Rhino Live Link. |
| A stone is classified as metal | Right-click the part ▸ set its kind to gem — or Scene ▸ Auto separate parts to re-classify every part at once. |
| Piece is sideways | Z-up conversions cover the common cases; rotate the group with the gizmo or numeric transforms for the rest. |
A saved scene loads without its model
Scene settings don't contain geometry. Either keep the model file on that machine, use Save model to Drive (then the scene restores it anywhere), or move work between machines as a scene bundle (.zip) — see Drive & library.
Where do I report a bug?
The Report menu, in the studio. Describe what happened; you can attach images or the model, and — always your explicit choice — a reviewed snapshot of the scene so we can reproduce it. You'll get a notification in the studio when it's fixed and ready to retest.
